LEE
ORIGINALS

The 7 Originals and the 5 Buddy Lee Outfits are presented in a unique and personal way. Burnt wooden floors and historic images evoke the era of when the garments were first used. The garments are presented on meathooks. For the Buddy Lee garments, the Originals Concept is taken a step further. The garments are presented on a raised platform, made of black sheet metal. The platform is filled with charcoal. The charcoal refers to Lee’s Heritage as being the “fuel” to run the locomotive engines in which the workmen wore the Lee Overalls. Just as the burnt wood, charcoal is also an extremely distressed version of wood.

To display the Buddy Lee dolls, bird cages are used. The cages refer to the practice of taking a canary in a cage into the mineshafts. Canaries were used to alert coal miners to the presence of carbon monoxide underground, because canaries demonstrated signs of distress in the presence of small quantities of the noxious gas. When consumed by the effects of carbon monoxide, a canary would sway noticeably on his perch before falling.
