The history of the Radisson Blue Hotel ‘Amsterdam City’ dates back to the golden age, the 17th century, the age that brought Amsterdam its wealth and prosperity. The East India Company (VOC) was found in the same age. Leaving from the old harbor of Amsterdam the VOC sailed throughout the eastern hemisphere and started trading settlements and set up warehouses in places such as South and East-Asia, South Africa, Indonesia and Japan. Trade in products such as spices, silk, porcelain and gold brought great wealth to the merchants and traders of that era.
The Golden Age has brought Amsterdam welth and prosperity . It has given the city its characteristic appearence that is loved by people all over the world. It is the main reason why Amsterdam attracts so many tourists. The Radisson Blu Hotel will now give something back to the people who visit Amsterdam: the treausures that were once brought to Amsterdam by the ships of the VOC: Porcelain, Silk, Gold and Spices.
