Just planned a trip to Berlin? If not, we’re pretty sure you will be after reading this article. There’s so much to see, so much to experience, so much to taste. We took off with a very overgrown to-do list. We stayed in three different hotels to discover Berlin from East to West. But what’s the point of all this knowledge if we can’t share it? Let’s talk about accommodation first. Because that’s where the travel planning starts.

Where to stay: 25hours hotel

The 25hours hotel, designed by Aisslinger studio, is just excellent. Every detail is so well thought-out. On top of that (pun intended) they have a spectacular rooftop bar with delicious cocktails called ‘The Monkeybar’ and a restaurant at the same top floor of the building with food that makes your mouth water, ‘Neni’. The hotel rooms are impeccable and full of exciting details. Sex hands on the headboard, a Bluetooth box for blasting sick beats through your hotel room, branded recyclable shampoo and lotion, a handbag to take to town, magazines in the toilet, a door hanger with 25 custom-made messages, … to sum it up: they thought of everything and more. Even though we encourage walking stairs, we would recommend taking the elevator. You’ll see why.

Where to stay: Michelberger hotel

A hotel that oozes creativity and tranquility at the same time. The interior was created by the in-house design team and… Aisslinger studio – yes, those same guys from the 25hours hotel. A job well done if you ask us. Walk through the entrance of the hotel and step into the living room. Cozy couches, soft pillows, furniture that contains hundreds of books. The living room is connected to cafe Honolulu. The place to be for coffee, cocktails and tasty food.

Michelberger is full of playful elements: lamp shades made of book covers and bits of paper, toilet doors with blinds that only close when you lock the door, jungle sounds while you do your business... As a guest you can treat yourself to a yoga class or a concert there as well. They produce their own coconut water ‘Fountain of Youth’ that is actually really good – ‘cause admit it; most coco water is just foul. The packaging is very neat as well!

We should mention: both hotels are so well equipped, that it becomes difficult to leave either of them. There’s just so much to see, so much to do and so much to experience.

Next up: where to go for food and drinks? Sehr important for an agency that is mainly active in the hospitality business.

Where to eat: Kimchi Princess

‘Good food in a whorish canteen setting.'  We definitely wanted to visit this restaurant. But when we read this review on TripAdvisor, we were even more eager to go eat there. Red neon was indeed beaming from the restaurant when we arrived. We like. It has the right type of underground look. Inside we see raw, cold materials like concrete and steel – sometimes finished in red. Kimchi Princess turns out to be a marvelous place with great Korean food. While you’re there, do check out the cigarette machine near the toilets.

Where to eat: Beets and Roots

Choose the one at Grosse Hamburger Str 38. Beets and Roots is perfect for a quick healthy lunch. The interior pleases our eye and is very inspiring. The concrete floor and walls contrast with the pink tiles that cover half of the walls. And, oh yes, that neon on the ceiling!

Where to eat: Good Bank

A vertical farm where the salad you order is fresher than fresh. Fresher than market-fresh, fresher than socks you pull out of your washing machine. Fresher than the meat balls your grandma rolls. Besides this vertical farm, the Good Bank has two farms to meet the demand. Every ingredient they didn’t produce themselves is from local partners that share their vision. The interior design is a hint to the farm of the future.

Where to act like you know something about art: Sammlung Boros.

Christian Boros presents his personal art collection in this Berlin bunker. Yes, indeed: a bunker. The overground bunker dates back to the Second World War. It has been a textile warehouse, a storage room for imported fruit and vegetables under the name ‘banana bunker’ and a techno club with seven dark rooms. If these walls could talk… The museum is worth a visit. Modern art is clashing beautifully with the cold bunker spaces. A ‘what the fuck’ will also slip your lips a few times while walking through the museum. What else? Mister Boros had the top floor of the bunker magically transformed into his personal penthouse. It was furnished by Berlin studio Realarchitektur.

Where to shop: The Store

The name is not at all comprehensive enough for this gem. It’s anything but a ‘store’. Their premises are located in the Soho House Berlin and offer: fashion, art, furniture, books, a barbershop, a beauty salon and… food and drinks. They collaborate with local and international artists and you’ll find brands such as Balenciaga, Vetements and unique pieces by Nike, Puma and Calvin Klein. The Store presents itself as ‘a cultural hub where people can hang out’. We would present it as more of a ‘place you can spend all of your wages in a flash’, ‘cause damn!

Where to shop: Bikini Mall

The neighborhood around the 25hours hotel is a great area to stroll around. Do visit the Bikini Mall. This shopping center was the Berlin hotspot of choice in the seventies. But when the districts of Mitte and Friedrichshain became more and more fashionable (and convenient because of the low rent), the luxurious shops faded into oblivion. In 2014 the renovated Mall opened. Now it’s a space for pop up stores, concept stores, exhibitions and trendy little restaurants.
